"It’s incorrect to suggest that there is a “monolithic” left..."

"I’ve never seen the right make any good faith attempt to collaborate. It’s either their way or no way."

Could this be your problem? In the same comment that you criticize the author for suggesting the Left is monolithic, you do exactly the same to the Right. Now, I am sure you don't *actually* see the Right as being monolithic, just as the author explained they don't see the Left as such either. But it shows how deeply engrained this dichotomy is in the American political culture. To the point that regardless of how well Democrats put policy forward that can address the Republican voter base's material needs, it is almost impossible for them to address their emotional ones.

Let's look at one of the main criticisms Trump supporters seemed to have of Biden: that he's ushering in Socialism. No matter how absurdly incorrect that is, what are they really saying here? Are they really rejecting publicly funded healthcare? Or higher taxes for the wealthy? In part, that is how the ideas of socialism might actualize yes, but that alone doesn't explain why so many Trump supporters joked they would leave the country if Biden was elected. It comes down to the fallout of the Red Scare - the Red 'Scare'. They are frightened of what might come with socialism. The post-war enemy of Uncle Sam. And out of this fear, many become angry, many become frustrated, many become entrenched in their bigotry, and some will become violent.

The Left cannot address these fears which brought out the Right in droves, because the Left *are* this fear. One of the 'solutions' you are looking for might come from the 'Left' having open conversations about their disagreement. Who agrees with socialism and who does not. That isn't to say either is wrong, but it will show those who fear the Left that it is not all a single, monolithic, 'anti-patriotic', political movement.

This may seem simple on its face, but if OWS, BLM, or the Climate March are anything to go by, it is something the Left have yet to show they can do.
